Molecular sieve is an adsorbent that has the strong ability to control the moisture and humidity from liquids and gases. You must know that moisture can bring damaging effects of moisture in coating, sealants and adhesives products. The water vapors can blend with these products from fillers or ambient air during the production process. Not only this, several contaminated gases such as carbon dioxide can cause moisture-related issues and may result in blistering and degradation. To overcome such problems, molecular sieve for powder coatings, sealants & adhesives is used as an active desiccant to obtain moisture-free end products.
In this process, molecular sieves are not used directly. The molecular sieves in the form of powder are mixed in oil with some active ingredients that help in reducing the atmospheric moisture during the handling and mixing of the products.
Powdered 3A, 4A, and 5A adsorbents are used for removing the moisture from coatings, sealants, and adhesives without any unwanted reactions. They are basically used from 1% to 5% of its weight depending on the level of water concentration in polyol and other additives such as fillers, pigments, etc. They are ideal adsorbent to extend the shelf and pot life, enhance the surface finish, eliminate the foaming and bubbling as well as efficient in reducing the weathering effects. These adsorbents are easy to use, give high performance and offer consistent results to solve all moisture problems.
The right type of molecular sieve needs to be used depending on the water concentration and type of solution. It is safe and convenient to use this adsorbent as it does not react with any binder.
